Hangouts has lost the option to share your location.
The writing is on the wall for some time now, Hangouts is out, but Google has been trying to strip it of functionality in the meantime. Perhaps to depreciate enough to proactively alter most users, or at least do not miss them once they have left.
In May last year, we saw SMS removed from the app, one of its most helpful features, that allowed you to chat in a single app most of your way. Google has also removed custom ringtones from the app with an update in 2019.
Now, with the latest update, Hangouts has lost the option to share your location. Most likely, sharing your location wasn't a frequently used feature, but when you needed it, having it at the push of a button was priceless.
Even if the button is removed, your location can still be share via Hangouts, but it will now have to be started via Google Maps. You need to open another app, find the location and then press the share button. Much more complicated than just clicking a Hangouts button.
Regardless, there's no denying that Hangouts days are numbered, Google already delayed the transition to Hangouts Chat and Meet from 2019 till June 2020. Now, with it regularly removing features, I don't think we can expect it to be postponed yet again. Plus, with Google's big push for RCS, it's clear it wants you to switch to the Messages, where it's still possible to share your location within the app.
