WhatsApp Will Soon Let Users Encrypt The Google Drive Backup In Its Upcoming Update
With more than two billion users, WhatsApp, is one of the world's most popular instant messaging apps. The organization has worked hard to make it easy to use and to improve the overall experience.
WhatsApp will soon allow users to encrypt the backup of GoogleDrive in their update, according to WABetaInfo. Android users have already been able to backup their data on Google Drive, but they have not yet protected with password. Although the current data backup system is safe, some people may not be satisfied. The new feature therefore provides an additional safety layer to safeguard the backup data.
It is unclear when all WhatsApp users will have the feature launched and currently only accessible to Android users is expected. However, it is not clear if the backup encryption option will be given to iOS users.
"Basically the feature allows to encrypt your backup with a password, so you’re sure that nobody (neither WhatsApp nor Google) will be able to see its content.", explained WABI in a blog post.
So currently, user can enable Two-Step verification for extra security.
